禊は祓の一種で、水により心身を祓い清める行法です。その起源は日本神話を記す神典で日本最古の歴史書でもある古事記まで遡ります。伊邪那岐命（イザナギノミコト）が死者の国である黄泉国から帰ってきた時に、穢れを祓うために筑紫日向橘小戸の阿波岐原で禊祓を行ったことにあるとされています。天照大御神、月読命、須佐之男命の三柱の神様は、この禊により生まれた神様です。

禊祓は大自然の中で、滝や川の清浄な気の流れを全身全霊で受け、日々積み重なった禍事・罪・穢れ（気枯れ）を祓い清めます。

皆様にとって一番身近な禊は、神社に参拝する時の手水舎です。古代には皆、神前に向う前には禊をしたとのことですが、現在、禊が簡略化されたものが、手水舎で手と口をすすぐ作法となっております。

禊は本来、神事に先立つ潔斎として実践され、主な目的は心身を祓い清めることでございます。同時に祓の究極でもあり、祓を超越し、日頃から健全な心身を保つためにも目覚しく優れた効果があります。大いなる自然との響き合いを通し、天之御中主神（宇宙を司る神）の分御霊であり自身に宿る直霊（なおひ）の研磨・発揮・超楽無窮さえをもはかるものです。
禊により一霊五魂の乱れが調整され、直霊が清浄な輝きを取り戻し、再び無邪気な活力に満ち溢れ、元通りになるを目覚ましく越え、どんな困難にも真っ向から向き合い建設的に解決する強さが養われ、究極には貴い自性（個性）の発耀により、人生の御役目を成し遂げる生き様へと繋がります。
 

禊の行法を体系化し組織的に執り行う様になったのは、禊の根本道場 稜威会を設立された古神道家・川面凡児先生です。
神社本庁や國學院大學の前身である皇典講究所の今泉定助翁が、川面先生を強く支持なさったことにより日本全国に広まり、執り行われる様になりました。

当杜では川面凡児先生が創設された禊の根本道場・稜威会会員として、浦野智雍先生・江島啓介先生の御許可の元、川面先生や稜威会の霊学にて、禊祓の行を執り行っております。

また、楽古舎の永川辰男先生より御指導頂きました息吹呼吸法も、御許可の元、取り入れさせて頂いております。​修験道の滝行は、円泉寺天神社の西澤形一宮司先生より御教授並びに指導許可を謹んで拝受致しました。

滝、川、海と、禊場によりその都度お祀りする神々に多少の違いはありますが、どの行場でも大いなる自然から賜る大稜威は、正に超楽無窮です。

禊をすれば、修理固成の道が自然と示されます。

禊は実践神道なので、体験して頂くことで自然と再び活力に満ち輝きを取り戻す御自身の魂を感じて頂けることかと存じます。

神道神事に敬意をお持ちであれば、参加者の文化・民族・宗教背景は問いません。普通に祓として、時に癒しとして、また精神鍛錬としてお越し下さい。

Misogi-harae is known as Ko-Shintō/Shintō spiritual/physical purification practice since the ancient times which history can be seen in Japanese mythology. Izanagi-no-kami conducted the very first Misogi-harae after running back from Yomi-no-kuni (one kind of world after death).

Misogi is one kind of Harae purification to cleanse and purify our spirit, mind, souls and body, by clean flowing water such as ocean, waterfall and river in great nature.

Under the professional guidance by Michi-hiko / clergy, you receive the great nature / water flow with full of clean vital energy in great nature and universe, to cleanse and purify you from all the Magagoto (evil / distortion), Tsumi (sin), and Kegare (Impurity / withering "KI").

However, Misogi-harae functions way more beyond purification. Misogi guides the one to be receptive to own Naohi (truest nature/supreme self/inner wisdom/inner divinity) to align, polish, cultivate / exercise one's true path/identity/integrity, and to purely shine through, even brighter than ever before. Ancient Shinto practices leads the one to the state of oneness with Kami, called "Shin-jin-gaitsu", "Shin-jin-ittai", "Shin-jin-funi".

​This Misogi-harae spirituality / philosophy was advocated by Bonji Kawatsura-sensei of Miizu-kai, the origin of Misogi Dōjō where Rev. Kuniko Kanawa is a member of. He systematized the Misogi program with each detailed Kamiwaza (divine deed) practice. This formation officially spread throughout Japan by the strong reverence and support by Sadasuke Imaizumi, who was a director of Kōten-Kōukyūjo which is the roots of Jinja-honchō and Kokugakuin university. 

Under Kawatsura-sensei's philosophy, Misogi-harae transcends much higher than the purification. It leads you to the journey of reflecting your inner divinity and self-discovery, to figure out your life duty, nurture your strength to face / handle any difficulty in your life, by naturally and strongly connecting with the cycle of sacred great nature, surroundings, and yourself.

​Anybody is welcome to attend my Misogi workshop, as long as you respect Shinto and Misogi's principle. Classic Yogi finds a remarkably strong connection to Misogi as we share the same spirituality and purpose within our practices.

Not only the Shintō priests and martial artists, ordinary people with different religious/cultural/ethnicity background, also practice Misogi to strengthen and polish one's spirit, or to simply wash away the bad energy. You will clearly realize the dramatic result of Misogi after your Naohi becomes full of bright energy and shines once again.

As a member of and under the permission by MIIZU-KAI, the primary Misogi Dōjō founded by Bonji Kawadzura sensei, Rev. Kanawa introduces their Misogi and spirituality in English.

She also incorporates various Ibuki Shintō breathing taught by Tatsuo Nagakawa-sensei of Rakko-sha under his approval.

She humbly received the Shugen-dō style Taki-gyō waterfall practice training and its permission to teach by Nishizawa Keiichi Guji of Ten-jinja of Ensen-ji.

* Needless to say, Misogi-Harae / Taki-gyō practice must be conducted under the professional instruction by an officially approved Michi-hiko instructor or a licensed Ko-Shintō/Shintō clergy who was classically trained for genuine Misogi practice.
Laypeople should not casually do a self-trial without proper knowledge, authentic procedures and sacred customs, as you may cause serious injuries or put your life in danger at your own risk, by underestimating the mighty power of great nature, Kami, and traditional Misogi practice decorum.
Rev. Kanawa welcomes those who truly would like to practice genuine Misogi under her traditional guidance. She is also certified by American Red Cross/OSHA for [ Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED TRAINING, and Becoming an Ambassador of Water Safety ].

For additional note, Misogi-harae is nowhere close to Wim Hof extreme unnatural modern casual practice with no traditional cultural core/foundation.
